In the United  States we have just completed celebrating Thanksgiving... and have been trudging through Black Friday (the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season) and Cyber Monday.  Our society puts huge focus on shopping aspect of Christmas and we all want to get the best bargain we can. In order to do that, people stand in line for hours. In recent years the stores which are competing for the most money and the first customers have started having  Black Friday on Thanksgiving evening. And there have been incidents of physical violence to get those deals.

I do try to take advantage of the sales but I found most can be gotten online with free shipping.  Much easier to handle!  Though I have to say it still took me hours to find what I wanted and check out because my ordered disappeared at least twice!

Another major event starts right after our Thanksgiving is Advent. Though I come from a religious background that celebrates Advent, I personally have not given it much thought. Today in pondering what to write about, my thoughtlessness of Advent weighed on me.

If I am to do, whether in word or deed, everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, I should be focusing on Him daily not just in Advent.  Do I strive for that on a regular basis? Yes.  Do I achieve it? No.

During these next 4+ weeks I plan to commit to be thoughtful of God's incredible gift of eternal life through Jesus. During this time I put extra work into decorating my house for Christmas. I put extra care into getting the right gifts at the best prices.  Considering all that I do for the "event" of Christmas,  I want to challenge myself to put extra time into my daily Bible reading and into prayer...to challenge myself to not fret about the holiday and its trimmings but to be thoughtful to putting extra care into the heart of our Christmas blessing in Christ.

I know our CAST Team prayer list is full of many great needs but during this season my heartfelt prayer for each of you (and myself) is that the peace of God would rule your heart and that which Paul stated in Colossians 3:17:

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

I am a terrible singer. When I say that, people try to minimize that statement telling me they are sure I am no worse than most or that I am being overly critical of myself.  But I know it is not just being overly critical... I sing horribly.  After so many years at church, singing the worship songs I began thinking I was getting the hang of it.  I always close my eyes when I sing and try to focus on the Lord through the music.  The day I thought I could somewhat sing, I decided I could harmonize with the worship team.  I was fairly pleased with what was coming out of my mouth when I opened my eyes and saw two children holding their ears in front of me.  No, it was not a coincidence... they were giving sidewards glances of disgust!  I have not belted a song out since.But I still love to sing to the Lord (I do so quietly now).

Recently I was singing (very timidly) with my eyes closed meditating on what it would be like to be at the throne of God singing praises to Him with the heavenly choir.  I asked the Lord if my voice would be pleasing to Him when I was was there.  (I so hoped it would.)  He gave me a beautiful response that I have been pondering on since.  He told me that He listens to the heart not to the voices.  That He hears us with the ears of His heart.  That He wanted us to hear others with the ears of our hearts.

When I think about listening to a person with the "ears of my heart" I think of focusing into the soul of the person.  So how do we do that?  We can't.  God can.  For a long time now, God has convicted me that each person I meet (whether I like them or not) is of special value to Him.  He loves them just as He loves me.  He called me while I was a sinner, loved me and forgave me.  He calls me to do the same for others.  I am not God and I still am a self-centered sinner so by my own means I am not able to hear beyond words... to hear the deep cries of the heart.
 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, Eph 3:16

What He taught me is that when I am talking to a person, I look into their eyes and pray: God you love this person as much if not more so than me. Love them through me.  That simple prayer has changed so many relationships that I am not able to express the power of it to you.  And now I will add to that prayer.  I will ask God to allow me to hear beyond the words into their hearts.

This past weekend at church when we did our hand-shake thing, I saw a dear friend who's husband has cancer in his throat.  She was pretty devastated as he could barely talk and not able to eat or drink plus undergoing of all the side effects of the treatments.  After the service I prayed with her but felt incredibly inadequate to have words of comfort for her.  As I prayed out loud with her, I was praying from my heart to the Lord asking Him to provide the comfort that was beyond me.  When we finished a woman approached and apologized for interrupting but her husband had cancer and it is 2 years now and things are looking good.  She gave wonderful encouraging words. I just praised the Lord for the comfort that she brought.

Once we had finished talking and praying, I looked around and the church was empty except one young man (probably about 16 or 17) with kind of wild hair down to his shoulders, baggy shorts and t-shirt.  (I imagine if the apostles lived today, they would look much like him, they certainly would not be suit & tie guys.) As we walked out, he stopped my friend asking her if her husband had cancer.  She said yes.  He said God had spoken to Him and to tell her that he would be cured.  It is amazing how God listens to our hearts and answers through those who choose to hear with their hearts what He has to say!


But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”1Samuel 16:7

My dinning room
I feel I should be sharing this but am not sure how to start or not make it trite.  I mentor two women – V and T.  They have two very different personalities and are different places in their walk with the Lord.  V is in her 40s and T is in her late 20s inching close to 30.  We meet in my dinning room that has a little sitting area with two nice (though quite worn) high back antique chairs.  I meet weekly with them, V on Tuesday nights and T on Wednesday nights.

V and I have met for 2 years now.  It came about quite casually in conversation that she would love to have someone meet with her and I have a heart for working with women to help them grow in the Lord.  Our meetings started the following week. V struggled through the first year not being able to absorb the Words of God easily and certainly not being able to grasp Biblical concepts well.  We discussed that she possibly had ADD problems and I credited much to that.  Though she was not absorbing the Word without much effort we could see how she progressed in her walk with the Lord.  V struggled with her husband.  They talked rudely and sarcastically to each other. We reviewed that in Ephesians (5:33) God through Paul tells wives to respect their husband and we prayed she could find ways to respect him no matter how small they may seem.  We reviewed her victories each week…how often she read the Bible, how often she prayed, did she have a kind word to say to her husband, did she succeed in not gossiping at work, etc.  All the little things we struggle with daily that add up to straying from the Lord or drawing closer to Him

When she felt guilty for not praying, reading or being kind to her husband I stressed that she needed to let go of the guilt.  That Satan would love for her to condemn herself and immobilize her by making her feel like a failure.  That is why I always emphasize learn from our slip ups, focus on our victories.  Let God have the glory.

Our little spot in the two old worn chairs became a place of security to V and awe to me.  I saw God work in many ways that it is almost too overwhelming to explain.  I think of Jesus’ disciples who tried to write a synopsis of His ministry and I understand how overwhelming that must have been.  And in my own little way relate to John who wrote:

Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. John 21:25


Some time after we had been meeting over a year, she shared that she was not convinced she was going to heaven.  This puzzled me because I had been confident in her salvation but she wasn’t.  The next meeting we walked through the “*Romans Road” topped off with John 3:16.  (If you are not familiar with these verses, they are at the end of this article.)

I had V read each verse out loud several times.  And I ask her questions after each.  Is this the truth?  How do you know that?  She affirmed Yes and that God does not lie.  I’d ask if God was the same yesterday, today and tomorrow?  Yes.  When we reached John 3:16 I continued to ask the same questions and added: Are you going to heaven?  She said yes.  Then I asked why.  She stated she believed in Jesus and confesses her sin.  I’d say again and she would reread the verse…followed by the same questions.  We did this possibly 6 or 7 times when she said “I feel warm all over”.  V visibly looked different.  A peace had descended on her.  It was a beautiful sight and a privilege that God allowed me to be a part of. 

Now before you begin thinking that I am a person who believes in “feelings” or emotional experiences to know God is working, I am not.  I never had an experience such as V that reassured me of my salvation.  I have full confidence in my salvation through my belief in Christ.  I strongly feel it is a gracious blessing of the Lord when we get that feeling of being encompassed by Him but it is not a necessity to faith.

After that day, V changed.  She had a hunger and thirst for God’s Word.  Passages that she struggled with were clear to her.  It was as if her mind had been in a fog and the Spirit of the Lord brought clarity to her.  Each week is an awesome experience seeing how God works in her life and during our time together.  He will grant me words and insights that specifically speak to where V is at that day. As we read God’s word, He brings it to life how it applies to her (and me).

V’s life is in change.  I had her write her goals down a while back and we review them each week.  One was to find a new career…it just happened last week.  Another was to re-build a relationship with her husband…she has found “fun” and joy in her relationship with him.  Her primary goal of drawing closer to God is unfolding before us weekly. 

And one of the goals I presented V with when we first began meeting is that one day she will invest in another woman as I have with her and become the mentor.  Last week was the first time she said she thought she could do it!  How great is that?

From 7 to 9pm on Tuesday nights I am blessed incredibly.  I almost feel those worn out chairs are sacred ground for God works in a mighty way when V and I sit, talk about the week, read God’s Word and pray together.  What makes it even more special is on Wednesday nights at the same time in the same chairs, God meets with T and I with still more amazing results! (That will be a post for another day.)

My soul praises the Lord!

 The 2012 Olympics are in full swing as I write this. All over the world TV's, IPads and IPods are tuned in to see who will win and who hopes will be dashed.  Part of what makes them so fascinating are the stories of their journey to make it there.  I personally am not very athletic (which is an understatement) and find the athletes amazing.
 Their dedication to their sport and perseverance could be an example to us as Christians.
Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. — 1 Corinthians 9:25-27
 I watched tonight a young athlete who was devastated because she did not make it past the trials.  She had been a world champion in her sport with the hopes of culminating her hard work by winning a medal in the Olympics.  My heart broke for her as I thought of the years of sacrifice and persistent training it took to get her there.  This was her goal... her focus...her life.  It was gone in a matter of minutes as one of her teammate's scores exceeded hers.

My goal, my life is to run it for God.  The Olympics sometimes convict me because I know  my goal is so much greater and is not as fickle as a missed step in a sport yet I do not put in the hours of dedication that an Olympian puts into their training.  I am so thankful we have a God who is so gracious to us!  He is not giving me points off for when I make a mistake or stumble and fall.  Instead He calls me to come near to Him and He comes nearer to me.  When I make a mistake He tells me, once confessed my sins are gone to Him.

We, as Christians are blessed with the greatest prize of all... God's love through Christ.  At the end of our race, we will have an eternal award... it will never be misplaced, tarnished or fade.

As I continue to watch the Olympics, I think I will take a little time to take stock of the race I am running.  Reassess my priorities, renew my focus and strengthen my determination for my God is greater than anything of value in this world!
I went in response to a revelation and, meeting privately with those esteemed as leaders, I presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain. Galatians 2:1-3

The area I live in, the northlands of Minnesota, was hit hard by flood waters this past week.  Though there is a river running through my town of Cloquet, we did not suffer as much because we are on high ground.  However, Duluth and many smaller towns around took a beating as 8 to 10 inches of rain pounded in a mere 24 hours.  Roads were washed away, basements were flooded, dried up creeks became rushing rivers, rivers no longer had discernible banks and people lost homes.  We do realize that with all this property damage we were blessed not to have any loss of life.

For some of you reading this, you have experienced similar floods and hurricanes and probably some much worst than ours but you have been prepared as to what to do when it happens.  Our area emergency preparedness teams have numerous contingency plans for all sorts of disasters but not for floods.  The flooding exceeded all records imaginable for this area.  If it had been a snow of several feet, it would have been just a blimp in our radar… but rain took us by surprise.

It makes you wonder… what are we prepared for as Christians?  Do you have contingency plans for whatever comes along?
What will shake your faith?  Is it losing everything you own, a death in the family or possibly did you have faith in a pastor that went bad?  Were there Christians in your life who did not treat you as a Christian should?  I had that happen once when I was struggling to understand what faith and God meant to me. It kept me from attending church for years.  But if I had my emergency preparedness plan in place that could have just been a blip on my radar.  Instead it was a major set back.

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.  James 1:6

We need to be thoughtful about our faith.  Not allowing ourselves to be tossed by the wind.  I probably have not put my plan into the terms of “emergency preparedness” but certainly I have been very purposeful of deepening my knowledge of the Lord and my relationship with Him. I want it to be just like the fire drills we all have been through, so ingrained in me that I know what to do without thinking. 
How to have an emergency preparedness plan in place?  (These are in no particular order.)
  • Read God’s Word daily.  Even if it is only one verse.  Once you develop the habit it will stay with you always.  I am totally unsettled if I go to bed without reading the Bible.
  • Seek out a Biblical church that can feed you in the knowledge of the Lord, do not choose it just to make you feel good.
  • Become involved in Bible studies or other groups that help you grow in the Lord.
  • Learn to depend on God’s Word not on people.
  • Question what you are being taught. Check out the verses in context and see if that is how God meant them to be. 
  • Be involved.  Where, how?  Just try various things.  I tried children’s ministry at one time and it drained me as did cooking for others in need but when I started teaching adults I was energized!

  • Probably the most important of all… remember God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  Take time on a regular basis (maybe at night in bed or while journaling) to remember the things God has done for you.  Never let that leave you so that when the crisis in life hit, when you feel depressed or forsaken... review them.  This is what I do.   
I tell myself if God pulled me through that, if God helped me grow through this, if God saved me in another situation, etc... therefore why would He not do the same for me today? I then wait expectantly to see what He will do and how he will carry me through.
I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.  Psalm 130:5
(Note that the word “wait” in this context meant to expectantly hope)

In trying to decide what to write for this post today I went to BibleGateway.com. The verse of the day was from of my favorite psalms - Psalm 19.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.”

I love this verse. As we transition from winter to summer (we had no spring this year) I am in awe of the beauty of nature around us. Of the fresh scent in the air of a warm breeze (being from Minnesota... warm breezes are a delight). I love seeing the flowers burst into bloom and the world come alive all around us. Up here near Duluth, summers are short. We all want to take advantage of each nice day; not wasting a moment of the sun. People are walking dogs, kids are playing in yards, bicyclers are furiously peddling and joggers run by with their head sets on.

When I'm outside in this weather I feel like a little kid just arriving at Disney World. How awesome... almost overwhelming... it all is. God's nature screams at me, proclaiming the wonder of who He is. My senses are intensified and I want to deeply breathe in each moment, each cloud or blue sky, each scent, blade of grass, tree, ant, flower and/or rock to absorb it all... to make God's gift a part of who I am.

The only thing that saddens me in the joy amidst these gifts is that all people don't see it as from out wonderful God. To some it may be "mother nature" or just part of the world's evolution. I want to scream to those people "open your inner eyes and ears!" "See what God has put right in front of you. How can they not see or hear the declaration of the earth, sky and sea? Because Satan has blinded them to God's truth.

"The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
2 Corinthians 4:3-5
While working or playing outside I pray for those that their eyes will be opened to know salvation through Christ Jesus and enjoy the lavish gifts bestowed on us by our God.

"I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe."

Trust: (noun)
  • firm belief or confidence in the honesty, integrity, reliability, justice, etc. of another person or thing; faith;
  • reliance the person or thing trusted
  • confident expectation, anticipation, or hope: to have trust in the future
Above is the dictionary definition for the word trust. When my son was in Boy Scouts they put it quite simply by giving the example of turning on a light switch. You did not doubt the light would turn on, you expected it to and you had confidence as you flipped it up. My faith I think is very much the same as that childlike faith towards a light switch. I turn to God and I expect He is there. Even in my most stressful times, I don't doubt my God is always there for me.

My biggest problem is the everyday. The Sunday Scripture post (4/10/11) by Melanie (Beads-N-Style) stated the same thing just in a different way. (I hope to carry the thought a little further in this post.) There are days that work gets so stressful, I want to just numb my mind by playing a computer game. I realize it is a time waster but do it anyway. I don't want to think at that time nor talk. (I talk more than enough at work.) I want to "veg out".

I don't believe there is anything inherently wrong in that as long as it is in moderation. (When it becomes all consuming I think then there is a problem.) Most of us have some type of time waster (for some it is TV) we engage in that has no real constructive value nor does it glorify the Lord. The problem I have with it is that it blocks my thoughts from dwelling on the blessings God has given me and/or it blocks my trusting in Him to relax my mind.

My question to myself is: if I have total trust that God handles the big things in life why would I not have it for Him to take care of the little things? I honestly feel that most of the time I do trust BUT also I find myself wanting to be in control and force outcomes to be the way I think they should be. Even in prayer I may give God my account of how I think the outcome should be. For example I may pray "God please let them get that house they want" as opposed to praying "Lord, please direct them to the house of Your choice and give them discernment to know it when they see it."

When I start trying to take control, I am leaning on my own understanding. But God tells me not to do that. He tells me to trust with all my heart. What God has been laying on my heart lately is to totally lean on Him for each part of my day. That is why I need to be so careful about how much time I spend on my mind numbing, time wasting activity because whenever my mind is not engaged, it is then not engaged on my Lord. When my mind is not engaged on my Lord, it is not trusting and I begin to take control. When I take control, I decide the direction I want to go. When I decide the direction I want to go, I am wandering aimlessly because I do not know what is behind the next bend.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight
Proverbs 3:5-6
When I trust in the Lord, submit to His ways, allow Him to direct my path... I know I am safe because He knows what is behind every bend in the road.

I'm writing this just a few days after the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan that also effected other areas of the globe. Not long ago New Zealand had an earthquake. A year prior was the killer one in Haiti. I just went to a website called USGS - Earthquake HazardsProgram which stated that in the last 7 days there have been 507 earthquakes. I think what makes earthquakes so scary is that they shake the very ground that you walk on. I don't know about you but I rarely worry as I walk that the earth may be pulled out from under me... that buildings may crumble around me.

I like the illusion of being safe... of my world being secure. I was walking outside the other day and thinking how blessed I am to live a mundane peaceful life. Our world is not a world of peace. It is of turmoil, warfare, disease, floods, tsunamis and earthquakes. In a matter of minutes my world could change. All it would take is a fire, storm or an earthquake. All I own could be gone. My loved ones could be gone. Life as I know it today could be gone. If I did not put my trust in God, I think I may want to curl up in my bed, read some sappy fiction and get lost in another world.

The same with the spiritual world. It could all crumble around you when some unexpected tragedy quakes your life or you get lost in the monetary things of the world. Without even realizing it, we can shift our focus from God to the things that fill a superficial desire. Maybe it is decorating your home, collecting items, clothes, jewelry or our pets. None of those things are wrong but when we shift our focus from God to anything else... tragedy or things of the world... we can loose our footing. Little tiny earthquakes can shift us in other directions without us even totally realizing it until one day we wonder where is God?

Come near to God and he will come near to you.
James 4:8

That is why it is so important to keep our focus on the Lord. He tells us to meditate on His word day and night. This was not always easy for me and I must admit that there are times I have to get recentered, refocused on the Lord. I found that prayer, meditating on the Word of God and focusing on Him is like exercise. You need to practice and strengthen yourself for it to be effective. If I were to get the urge to lift weights for my workout, I would not start with hundred and fifty pounds it would be more than I could handle and I would get discouraged. (Don't worry I have no urge to lift weights...no muscle strain going to happen here!)
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:8-9
With prayer it is often the same. We start by wanting to hit the heavy weights and get discouraged or think this is a waste of timeI . We may feel that like we are not getting anything out of it. God commands us to pray and does not promise it will "feel good". (I personally think it does.) If we start simple and practice... we will be amazed at how God honors that and grow in the depth of our relationship with Him.

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. That is how we stay secure in an ever changing world that is filled with uncertainty... filled with shifting ground. We build our foundation on the Rock of Jesus Christ. Then we put God's word into practice... and we need to practice and practice to constantly strengthen our relationship in order that we may weather the storms and hold firm in the earthquakes in life.

I wish to encourage you to be in prayer for this latest tragedy in Japan. I can't imagine how the devastation must be effecting them. Pray that they may find the steady foundation that is in Christ during this traumatic time.

Oh my! It is 10:00 pm Sunday night and I just realized a little bit ago that it is the 2nd Monday of the month which means I need to do my monthly blog post. I have not been online hardly at all this week but all week I have been itching to write. I just did not know what to write about. Even this afternoon I was restless but still could not think of what to write. But I have been praying about it.

The day you will be reading this is Valentines day and I know many singles are cringing inside at the loneliness that they are feeling. Personally, I think it is all a bunch of unimportant hype (and I am married 39 years to an awesome man but the V-day has no significance to that love). Love is either there or not. For us who know Christ personally, it is always there! He is our Lord, lover, confidant, rock, salvation... the beginning and end of all we are and all we need.

This week I turned 60! Who would have ever thought I could get that old? The strange thing (I know many of you my age and older would agree) that inside I feel much younger. I remember when I first started to get to know my Lord. Some people have a sudden life changing experience but I did not. My Lord was patient and courted me. He allowed me the grace to slowly discover the wonder of who He is and how He could become a part of me. I was particularly slow and it took almost 13 years to fully grasp that my life was all about Him... but He was patient and waited.

I was so afraid that over the years I would drift away never to return but I learned how to draw closer. When I drifted I found myself restless but when I worked to be closer to Him, I found peace. He taught me to count the victories and forgive myself the failures. That was big for me. Every time I stumbled I would tell myself that I was not a true Christian and could never be after all I kept messing up!
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.
1 John 4:16-18
Jesus taught me to look at the times I did right. Once I began focusing on my victories and forgiving my failures I began growing by leaps and bounds in my faith. I understood grace and God's great love. Truly as much as I love my husband, children and grandchildren... none of that would have any value without my love for my God.

So if you are a person who cringes over the dreaded V-day... ignore the advertisements of worldly love.
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them.
1 John 4:4-5
Take a few minutes to enjoy the greatest gift you could receive for any day. Enjoy the love of Christ and allow His grace to seep deep into the depth of who you are so that you may realize how special you are to Him. He created you for a reason and He knows your struggles and will guide you through them. He wants you to be who you are because He created you to be His.
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;

before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, God!

WOW... what a great gift of Love! And that Love message is not just for one day a year but for every minute of every day!

In the United States we celebrate Thanksgiving this week. I like this holiday because it is not weeks of preparation and if you take the time, it is a wonderful time to reflect on all that you have. I like the idea of having a day to stimulate thought, though quite honestly in the U.S. I think most of us dwell on the menu and less on what we have to be thankful for. God commands us many times to be thankful or to have a sense of thanksgiving in everything... good or bad. He tells us that we will receive peace when we are thankful!
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:6-7
This verse comforts me because it reminds me that God commands us not to be anxious. He is big enough to handle it all! But the reality is that I am a control freak and want to have it handled my way so instead of trusting God, I hold tight telling Him how it should be resolved. When I do this I begin stressing and becoming overwhelmed with life. Is that sin? I don't know but I do know it is not how God wants us to live.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Col 3:15
Trusting God, letting His peace rule within and letting go is what I am constantly striving to do. I found that at night as I start to fall asleep I can visualize in my mind taking the issue and handing it over to Christ. I state what it is and lay it as a package for Him to deliver the results. When I am done, I fall asleep... more and more I drift off prior to finishing my prayer list because I know He can handle it better than I can. And I know He knows what is weighing on my heart and those I pray for.

In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. Psalm 5:3
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Col 4:2
I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1
Waiting expectantly. I find that when I choose to do that - to be patient and watch and wait - the Lord answers my prayer in ways I could never imagine. So much better than what I would have told Him to do. This is always a work in progress for me. I still find myself explaining a situation (like He did not know all its details?) and stating what I think may work the best... then oops, I realize that is not what I should do so I quickly add "but Your will be done." Like that last tag along line is me giving it all over to Him?

It is the times when I am in prayer and dwell on who and how great our God really is rather than how big my problems really are that I truly am permeated with that peace. It is such a sweet peace... it truly is the peace that surpasses all understanding.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe Heb 12:28

If you have not felt that peace or if you haven't felt it recently, I challenge you to minimize your requests and maximize your God. Take your prayer time and spend a minimum of the first half of it dwelling on the greatness of your God and thanking Him for everything in your life and the world He created for us. Then wrap the rest of the requests in a package and lay it at His feet... trust... wait and watch. God is faithful and answers prayer!

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Col 2:6-8
