So the other day I was making brownies for a birthday party and I clearly heard the Lord speaking to me.

"Helen, pick up your Bible!"

I knew it was the Holy Spirit.

Who else would tug, nag, and constantly push me to open the Bible at such an odd moment??

So I did... I stopped stirring that chocolatey, creamy, filled with wonder brownie mix, and opened my Bible.

I continued my reading from 2 Peter:
"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
(2 Peter 1:5-8)

Did you just read that?  Is that a Recipe from God or what?  I guess it wasn't such an odd moment afterall.  Right when I was baking... and if you know anything about baking, YOU KNOW that every ingredient is vital... and measuring each ingredient is even MORE vital than the ingredients themselves.

So, here's what I picked up from that passage:

Recipe for an Effective and Productive follower of Christ

Ingredients:
Faith
Goodness
Knowledge
Self-control
Perseverance
Godliness
Brotherly kindness
Love

Instructions:
Add all of the ingredients together.  If you're able to increase the quantity of each of the above ingredients, the more EFFECTIVE and PRODUCTIVE in the knowledge of Christ you will be!  Remember that EVERY INGREDIENT IS VITAL to the "success" of this recipe.

Enjoy in Abundance!!!

Meal in a Bowl Tomato Salad
aka - Caprese Salad

I call it meal in a bowl because I often have it for dinner - no cooking!! It has vegetables (tomatoes and onion), protein (cheese) and carbohydrates (french bread). Right now, while gardens and farmers markets are rich in tomatoes, it's the opportune time to prepare this luscious salad.

For each bowl,

2-3 ripe, juicy tomatoes, washed and cut into bite sized pieces
About 3-4 very thin slices through a red onion
2 oz. of fresh mozzarella sliced into bite sized pieces
3-4 fresh basil leaves, snipped into the bowl
kosher salt to taste
fresh ground black pepper to taste

Dress salad with about 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil. Mix it all together. Slice french bread diagonally and get ready to dip. This salad creates lots of wonderful dipping juice.

From The Message: Genesis 1:11-13 "God spoke: Earth, green up! Grow all varieties of seed bearing plants, every sort of fruit bearing tree. And there it was. Earth produced green seed-bearing plants, all varieties and fruit bearing trees of all sorts. God saw that it was good. It was evening, it was morning - day three."

Below are etsy shops of castteam members that have some wonderful red, juicy items.

“And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord: and great shall be the peace of thy children.” Isaiah 54:13

This is the record of a little tete a tete between my granddaughter (a senior at Clemson University) and me on FaceBook in which a “family recipe” was successfully passed down from generation to generation.

Hi Gram!!

How are you doing? I'm getting ready to for my first summer class today.

Anyways, I was wondering I could get your recipe for your meatballs. I have been thinking about them and I would really like to try making them!

Thank so much!

Love and miss you!!

Hi Lissy....I'm missing meatballs too. Need to make some myself. Buy a pound or less of ground beef. (I buy a blend of veal/pork/beef). If you can get that, do. To that I add 3-5 slices of Italian bread, wet and squeezed out. Crumble this into your meat. Couple tbs. of fresh chopped parsley or tiny bit of dried. 1/4 cup of grated Romano cheese and one beaten egg. Pepper. Blend together with hands. Form into little footballs and brown in fry pan.

Note: they can be eaten just like this or put in your sauce. Don't leave in sauce more than an hour or they may disintegrate.

Mangia, mangia.......Grammy

Tonight I made meatballs for the first time ever with my Grandma's recipe and I also made ravioli and my own sauce and for dessert we had dirt pudding and it was all phenomenal!

Our dear Linda of Buttonwilloe wrote some beautiful remembrances of her father, who passed away recently, on her Blog.  One very touching thing that her family did was to bake her father's favorite Hungarian pastry cookies, which are called "kiffles" and give them out as remembrances of him.  I asked Linda if she wouldn't mind sharing this recipe with us.

Kiffle means "a kiss on the forehead followed by a soothing comforting hug."

Kiffle Recipe

Ingredients:
1 pound cream cheese softened at room temperature
1 cup butter softened at room temperature
7 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
powdered sugar
2 cups filling: nut, lekvar (prune), or apricot

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
1) Cream butter and cream cheese till fluffy.
2) Stir together flour and salt and add it to the creamed mixture.
3) Cover; chill one hour
4) Divide dough into several pieces. Lightly dust rolling surface with powdered sugar, roll each portion approximately 1/8 inch thick (as you would a pie crust) and cut into 2 inch squares. Keep the remaining dough pieces in the refrigerator until you are ready to roll them out.
5) Place a dot (a little less than one teaspoon) of filling in the center of each square. If you use too much it will ooze out in the baking and make a mess. I usually do a test cookie and bake it to see if the amount of filling is correct.
6) Lift up two diagonal corners of the dough to center, pinching together to seal.
7) Place dough on un-greased cookie sheet. Bake till firm and slightly golden. (about 12-15 minutes).
8) Cool on wire racks. Sift powdered sugar over slightly warm pastries.
9) Store loosely covered in a cool dry place. (they freeze nicely...just make sure they are completely cooled before freezing )

FILLING FOR KIFFLES:

Lecvar (prune) or apricot filling:
1 1/2 Cups dried prunes or apricots, chopped into fine bits (food processor or by hand)
Water
Sugar
Place chopped fruit in sauce pan and cover with water
Add 1/2 cup sugar (or to taste, prune may not even need sugar)
Bring to boil and simmer on low until a thick jam-like consistency
