Introducing Sherri Ward of Butterfly Feet Shop
Introduction: I became a Christian when I was 22. My husband and I have three grown sons two of whom are married, and twin granddaughters soon-to-be eight years old. I am happiest when I have everybody together – like on Christmas Day. As for creativity, my interests growing up were more along the lines of reading and writing, but soon after my husband and I were married, I began to make things such as flowers out of wire and fabric. For a few years I worked for a lady who created lots of clever items – old world Santa’s, muslin dolls and so on. Later on for a time, I clowned, and that really got my creativity going – from making all the costumes for myself and fellow clowns to writing the skits and learning to face paint, tie balloons and juggle. I eventually went to work as an admin – and that’s when I started making greeting cards. We used cardmaking software to make cards for employees, and I loved it. From there I learned a lot more about designing my own graphics and so on, and these days I don’t think I ever use graphics which I have not created myself. I love seeing my work printed out and made into a card or other item.
How did you get started on Etsy? Several years ago, an artist niece impressed me with the fact that she had actually sold an item online – through Etsy. I wrote it down and looked at it occasionally, but it took me until last February to finally open my own shop.
How did you choose your shop name? I try to write down things I believe may actually be inspired by the Holy Spirit – and ‘butterfly feet’ was one of those things that just seemed whispered to me one day. I guess you have to believe God still talks to people to accept that. If you don’t, then think of it as one of those things that just popped into my head one day for no apparent reason.
What does a typical day look like for you? When I get up, I throw on jeans and go out to make coffee. I unload the dishwasher and make the bed, then I sit down with my coffee and Bible for my quiet time. After my husband leaves for work and I’ve had a bite of breakfast, I go to the computer and check emails, maybe catch up on blog reading and so on. If I have a sale I take care of that, but generally I move on to my writing and some blogging, or at least blog reading. I try to save the creative art stuff for later in the day, after I’ve done some writing and housework. I have to do it that way, because the art is too much fun, and I believe the Lord wants me to keep my priorities in order. It’s as though the artwork itself is the “after school treat!” One of my goals, however, is to hopefully make more time for art in the coming year.
If you could be anywhere in the world for one day, where would it be?
New Zealand. My husband and I have had the wonderful opportunity to travel a lot, and we have been to NZ three times now. I just can’t tell you how really beautiful it is!
What is your favorite bible verse? It’s really hard to pick out just one, but I do especially treasure the verses that reassure my heart of God’s love and His constant presence with me, so:
Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What is your favorite Etsy item listing to feature? Creating digital patterned papers that coordinate is fun, and I especially enjoy “mouse drawing” something such as a vase and flowers and then creating textured or simple backgrounds to go with the picture. Color combinations catch my eye, and I can whittle away a lot of time trying out different backgrounds using one color scheme.
Where can we find you on the Internet?
My Etsy Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/ButterflyFeetShop?ref=seller_info
My blog: www.candidthought.com, it’s where I have been putting most of my Christian writing, although due to family issues (Mom in a nursing home) and working on my art and Etsy shop the last few months I have not blogged much lately.
My Website: www.calicocanvas.com which also I have not done a lot with yet – but it is intended to be a site about cardmaking and paper crafting, and to point visitors to my shop on Etsy. I plan to add an Etsy tab to my blog, but the other website is MS Live, and so far they don’t allow scripting, so the Etsy Mini doesn’t work.
Thanks so much to Sherri for sharing with us. Please take a moment to visit her shop. Be sure to return to this blog post to leave a comment about your favorite item for a chance to win the printable digital papers.
...and the winner of last week's giveaway from Kristi Duggins of Bohemian Bear is Ashley. Congratulations! You will be receiving a convo/email soon.
