It is with sadness that our team learned today of the death a few months ago of one of our own. Diane Fest of DianaLiz1 passed away in August.

You may read the announcement here:

http://www.suffolktimes.com/news/news-profile.php?ID=1775

Many have been missing her and wondering why she was no longer participating on the thread. Thanks to MrFilthyRotten for letting us know.  This is what he had to say about her:

" Diane had a lovely shop, filled to the brim with pet blankets, prayer boxes, beach glass jewelry and vintage items. She was always upbeat, sweet, handing out blessings and had a great sense of humor. Many evenings she would post on the thread (at times all by herself) promoting everyone's items. She loved cooking and she especially loved her little white dog Nicky. Diane was a good friend to our thread and will be sorely missed.

If you knew Diane, please feel free to leave a remembrance comment about her.

Donna of DHElegance and NameOnAShell and Rita of sammysgrammy got a chance to meet in Florida this past week.

Donna                Rita

Donna Says:

"Rita was in South Florida visiting her son and his family and we met up at a Starbucks in town.  We had such a wonderful time!!  We chatted and exchanged gifts :)  I was also able to meet her daughter in law and two of her grand daughters.  One of her grand daughters even brought some baked goods Rita had made and shared them with me.  They were so delicious!!

We had such a great time visiting together! We even prayed together (Rita, Donna, Rita's Daughter in Law and Granddaughters) before we all left."

If you get a chance to meet another CAST Team member in person, we'd love to hear all about it (and see pictures)!

CAST Team is a wonderful place to meet new friends. Once in a while, these friendships get to break out of the virtual world into "real life." We've recently had a couple of these CAST friend meetings and I just love a chance to get to hear about them and see the photos!

Donna of DHElegance and NameOnAShell (left) and Debi of TinksTreasure (right) meet in Florida in March

Donna says: "We're exchanging gifts (she gave me a bracelet she made and I'm giving her a shell I engraved that says Deborah) - I was working that day so it was a last minute meeting. She found out where I was working and came down and met me there. We got to talk and hang out, but not as long as we wanted to.  Now that we know she has family here, we can get together again :) "

Leah of MaticStudio and Sugarfoots (left) and Rita of sammysgrammy (right) meet in New York in April

Rita says:   "We had a lovely visit. Have so much in common. We even both attended the same healing conference last week, unbeknownst to each other. We didn't even know each other then. Our meeting took place at Starbucks about halfway between her house and mine."

If you have had a chance to meet another team mate, we'd love to hear about it!
a poem by Helen Orombi of Elegantcrochets

Pausing at the entrance of the room
my eyes lock only to his
Waiting for an indication
A sign …of consent.
Gingerly I steps in
Oblivious to the gasp
To the scowl
And to the jeer.
Tenderly I lifted my vase of alabaster perfume
Cradling it in my palm like a newborn baby.
Waiting still for an indication.
Fearing I might drop the vase and shatter the silence
I grasp even tighter to the vase
Knuckles white,
Beads of sweat forming on my brow.
Then he smiled again
Exhaling with relief
I knelt by his side
ours eyes still locked
Traces of the smile still on his face
I shattered the silence as I broke the bottle
More gasps
More scowls
More jeers.
Oblivious I poured the oil
And combed my fingers through his hair
Like a lover to her beloved
For to me, he was.
Love scene!
Some eyes averted
Some eyes glaring
Some eye approving
But I was oblivious to it all.
Then I stood.
And as I did my eyes drifted to those present
And it dawned on me,
My mind began to race
My eyes drunk in the scene
I staggered…
I felt like I was in the middle of a nightmare you know the kind that you cant wake up from?
And I heard one of the men say
Why was the ointment wasted this way?
The money could have been sold for three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor.

And he spoke
He actually stood up for me
No one in my entire life has even done that
My skin my look as tough as an elephant
But inside I am really timid and insecure.

He had this distinctively calm but authoritative voice
Looking around the table he said

Let her alone; why do you trouble her
Then looking at me with eyes full of tenderness he said

You have performed a good service for me.
Then looking around at the others again he said

You will always have the poor with you, and you can show kindness to them whenever you wish; but you will not always have me.
This lady here has done what she could; she has anointed my body before burial.
And you can be sure that wherever the good news is proclaimed in the whole world what she has done will be told in remembrance of her.

Can you imagine that, he said all that about me?
He stood up for me, I am actually worth it. All these years I didn’t think I mattered. Now I know I actually matter.

I never left his side ever since.
And can you imagine when he rose from the dead guess who saw him first.

You are catching on I can see.
Well I have to go now, I am still in business you know, I still have some clients to see, but not the same kind. He changed my life this Jesus fella, he can do the same for you if you let. I don’t know what your story, hopes and dreams are, but this Jesus, he can handle.

Well, it was nice talking to you all and thanks for listening to my story people are so busy now a days.

The idea for this post came about after listening to a sermon in which our pastor threw out the questions: "What would the church look like without men? What if it was just a place where women and children hang out?" That got me thinking about our CAST team and that it would be great to try to identify the CAST shops that are run by men or are husband/wife, father/daughter or father/son partnerships. So far we have been able to identify 15 shops. If you know of any others please Contact Me.

These are the first five shops:

Joel of joelquiggle

My name is Joel Quiggle and I create Limited Edition art prints of my work. I graduated from Penn State University with a BFA in Drawing and Painting. In the fall I plan on attending Edinboro University to complete my Masters in Art Education and teachers certification.I didn't take much of an interest in drawing until about 10th grade, from then on, I have loved translating my imagination onto paper or canvas. I realize God has given me all of the gifts or talents I have and I want to give God all the glory and honor that may arise from them.God has given me a true passion for Art in general and I just love being able to do what I do. If my artwork ends up in a gallery or in my basement, I am content on what God has done in my life. I am putting all my sales towards an engagement ring, so help me out and get some great artwork with it!
Phil and Aletta of glassnwood

Glassnwood is located on the tropical Coastal Bend of Texas. This setting allows us to capture many mental and photographic images to transfer into our art and craft. Aletta does the stained glass work and Phil does the wood carving. Collectively we have 30 years of experience in our art. Our goal is to provide you with a handmade memento of the wildlife in our area.

Dave of WolfCreekmil

I am Dave Alden owner/operator of Wolf Creek Millworks. We are a small artisan forestry products business that uses the wood found along our roadways, backyards, and other non-traditional locations. This wood often ends up in landfills and/or is allowed to rot. This seems like a waste to us. We hold the Christian belief that we are to be “stewards” of this planet we live on. While we do not espouse radical environmentalism, we do have concerns that we are not doing a very good job taking care of the place God made for us to live on. Our equipment is well suited to operating in suburban back yards, parks or woodlots without leaving a large footprint. Wolf Creek Millworks makes finished home décor items, mantles, bowls, oil-candles etc. from the wood we gather. We also make slabs and blocks available to other wood working craft-persons.

Our shop was started during a period of unemployment. We think that small artisan businesses are the future of the global economy. With the availability of the web and global shipping giants we have the same market as the mega-corporation with the customer service and local flavor of the sole proprietor. We hope you enjoy our work as much as we enjoy making it.

Steve and Kate of BirdhouseBlessings

Birdhouse Blessings by S&K Creation, is made up of my husband Steve and me (Kate). We build birdhouses, welcome signs and step stools, mostly. Steve is legally blind (he can see the big E in an eye exam but it looks like a B to him) and the most unique birdhouse builder that I know. We have been in business for approximately 19 years now. Steve builds the birdhouses out of either cedar or pine, I carve the roofs and paint them
Mike of Station1528

I work full-time at a brick and mortar place so I only get to do my kiln and clay work on occasions. It is all for fun and what extra I have I put on Etsy. It has been a real treat learning to use Etsy and meeting so many nice folks. I think Etsy is great.
I have no training or education in ceramics or art but do things from scratch and figure them out as I go along. The angels with messages are special and I am working on an Angel Project. I'm going to paint acrylic paintings of angels and give them away in exchange for a handwritten/stamped post card. I'm working on that so if you would like an original handpainted angel let me know. Thanks so much for your interest in my little shop and my little world.
Note from Sue: If you are one of our CAST guys and haven't sent in your info, please get it to me if you would like to be included.  Thanks!
I probably don't need to ask because this is such a generous team and I see how you all step up and promote each other every day. It's easy and it only takes a minute. Here are a few ideas.

Friends come in many packages. I have friends that took years to build…years of tears, years of laughter, years of thoughtfulness and years of being there for each other. Some friends we were born with like our moms, dads, sisters and brothers. I moved four years ago and I have good friends in the making that will need a few more years of building memories to bind us tight. I have work friends who may spend more time with me than my husband. Oh and speaking of him… he too is my friend of 38 years. And there are also accidental friends. They are the ones we first met and thought “I don’t plan to see them again.” Sometimes they are the best, because as they are unwrapped slowly, cautiously with trepidation…then they suddenly surprise you with their unique inner beauty. My best friend was one of the accidental ones.

Recently I have opened a few new packages… they were wrapped in Etsy paper. My first one, who now is very dear to me, I have never seen her face nor heard her voice, but we became friends when our shops were new and we decided to do a trade. Then I joined two Etsy teams. The initial one I joined the tie that binds is our love of creating. Together we celebrate the artistry we each possess. They are a wonderful group of artists that I truly am enjoying getting to know.

The next package I opened was the second team I joined, the CAST team. It is the one that I felt instantly bonded to. This team is bound by God’s words and the Word – Jesus. My fist day on the thread I felt surrounded by friends united by our love of God and by our love of His Word. I found them to be a group who wish to encourage and be encouraged in knowing God better and bringing His Word into our lives daily. I think it is amazing that God has blessed us with a technology to create a network of friends throughout this strange world, don’t you?

The work of our hands is a gift from God. We can use this gift to help us to meditate on the God’s word day and night. Below are some of our wonderful CAST team member’s items for your enjoyment and encouragement.
