“Whereas
ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a
vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
James
4:14
I heard a story about a man who won a prize from a grocery store - all
the groceries he could fit in his cart. He had one minute. I do not know what
he ended up with that day but I have an idea of what I would do. I would run
past the candy aisle, run past the potato chips and pasta and make a bee line for
the meat section. I would fill my cart
with filet mignon, pot roast and other expensive cuts of meat.
Our lives are a bit like that one minute in the grocery store. We are
here on Earth for a brief moment. The
Bible calls our lives a vapor.
Dictionary.com defines vapor as “a visible exhalation, as fog, mist,
steam or smoke” A visible exhalation - like when we go outside on a cold day
and we can see our breath. How long does
that last? Not even the minute the man
had in the grocery store.
So the question is, what are we doing with our brief moment of time?
What are we putting in our life cart? Are we filling it with things of value
like serving God, prayer, Bible reading, and loving others? Or are we spending
too much time of the “aisle of things that do not matter”? We do not know what tomorrow holds. We are
not even promised to have a tomorrow. We only have today. Let’s fill our lives, our moment in this
world called Time, with things of value.By Karen W of Ellie Marie Designs

Wow, such a beautiful reminder of what really matters in life Karen, thanks! So important to not let the business of life steal away our precious time and what God has for us.
That's a really cool illustration. Im going to share with my students.
This is a great devotional. A very good challenge to be aware of what we are doing with our time and our lives. Thank you
Oh I am sure I spending far too much time on things that do not matter. Thanks for the wonderful poke of awareness I needed.
I love it! That brings forward the question of what really does matter. My pastor likes to ask us "Where do you spend most of your free time?"
Very sober reminder of what's worth while.
A great visual for this devotion.
