It is our pleasure to introduce Gail Metcalf of Heart & Sow Designs as this week's Featured Artist. Gail creates a variety of inspirational and retro chic gift items from her home in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Introduction to you: I am
the owner and artisan of Heart & Sow Designs, handmade inspirational gifts.
I design and create handmade aprons for everyone, blankets, nursing covers, burb cloths, hooded baby towels, Victorian choker necklaces, Victorian lace cuff bracelets, prayer cloths, and retro hair accessories.
Gail has graciously agreed to give away a headband from her shop. For a chance to win the retro bow headband pictured below, please visit and favorite Gail's Etsy shop and follow her on Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, and Pinterest. Then return here and comment, telling us which item you like the best in Gail's shop. The winner will be chosen at random on random.org. Be sure to leave your email address so we can contact you if you are the lucky winner. The winner will be announced in next Wednesday's Featured Artist post. (Regular comments - those without naming the favorite item - are not considered entries.)
How did you get your start on Etsy?
I got started on Etsy from a friend’s recommendation who had heard that Etsy was a great place to sell handmade items, and who also had an Etsy shop.
How did you choose your shop name?
I came up with my shop name, Heart & Sow Designs, from my birth name Hart and because I want to “sow seeds of love from my heart to yours.”
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day begins with checking my websites to see what new orders have come in and checking my email for new custom orders too. Then I will finish any items that are already started or begin the creation of new items. In the evenings I still work on my business either sewing or work on marketing online. I love working on my products. I love sewing and seeing my finished products as it gives me such a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
If you could be anywhere in the world for one day, where would it be?
I love the ocean and water so I would love be anywhere that has a beach and water. A tropical island would be just great.
What is your favorite Bible verse?
My favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
What is your favorite Etsy item listing to feature?
My favorite item to feature and create is the cute flirty heart style apron. It has a heart bib with a flirty ruffle around the bottom and trimmed with rick rack.
If it has to be an item in my Etsy shop now, then I would said my halter shirt apron is an item to feature.
