Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ...
Romans 5:1 (NIV)

Thre are so many encouraging and challenging verses in the book of Romans, and this verse from chapter five is no exception.  We can be encouraged by the fact that we are justified through faith - admittance into the Christian faith is not based on how intelligent, attractive, wealthy, socially acceptable or "good" a person might be.  Instead, we are justified, or made right with God, based on faith.  And faith in what?  Faith in Jesus Christ, that he is the son of God (and is God), was crucified and died, and was raised to life to save us from our sins!

We can also be comforted by the fact that those who are justified through faith will have peace with God.  We can have peace in the knowledge that we are right with God because our sins have been paid for by Jesus.  It is comforting to know that when God looks at us he sees a clean slate, so to speak, one which has been cleaned by the blood of Christ.

Do you live as a person justified by faith or do you worry about whether you are "good enough" for God, or do you feel secretly smug at how many times you've read your Bible this week?  I'm not saying that we shouldn't live good and godly lives, which please God.  I'm saying that we should not trust in our own strength for salvation, something which we may be tempted to do sometimes, even though we know that salvation is through Jesus Christ.  We can pray that God would help us to trust in him alone.
Do you know someone who doesn't have peace with God?  Take time this week to pray for them, for opportunities to be a witness to them and that they may come to know Jesus and to know the comfort of being justified through faith.
