"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?" Matthew 5:13

THOUGHTS

"We are the Salt of the Earth" ever heard that phrase? Do you know what it means? What is meant by the fact that Christians are the Salt of the Earth? and are you a Salty Christian or a Saltless one?

Well first realize what salt is... it is a preservative, which means that it keeps other items from decaying, rotting and going bad. So if the world is decaying, rotting and heading for hell... whose fault is it? Are we Christians not being the 'preservatives' of the world we live in? Have we really stopped being in the world and not of it...or have we settled for just being in the world?

SALTY OR SALTLESS

To be "Salty" is doing what is right ALL the time. No matter what. Saltless Christians are the ones who compromise. Don't compromise your Godly beliefs for anyone or anything. The SPIRIT will wait. God designed it that way! It is the FLESH that CANNOT wait. And as a Christian you must remember that we are to DENY the FLESH daily. Your ACTIONS dictate your HEART. A Godly Heart will NOT do things that God would NOT do.

In other words God's standards are much higher than our own. Remember that anyone can do what is right by the world's standards. The world's standards change with time (remember that there was a point in time that sex was not allowed on TV. That was a worldly standard. It’s greatly changed now...) Godly standards never change. They are absolute and to compromise in them is to loose your spiritual power. You become saltless and you can't please God when you are saltless (in the flesh).

Remember if you are a Christian then you represent Christ. Make sure that whatever you do, you would be comfortable signing God's name to it. No christian is better than the example he or she sets. Be bold and stand for your Godly ethics. If others are Godly then they will back you up, if not then they do not need to be in your life.

"Then God said 'Let us make human beings in out image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.'"
~Genesis 1:26

God made US the ruler of the world and He will not go back on His word. But we have to be able to claim that Authority...and the only way we can do that is to truly walk with Him and be Salty.

PRAYER

Dear Lord we pray for the boldness and strength to keep ourselves within Your standards. That we keep our saltiness so that together we can be the Salt this world truly needs. We pray that you allow us to touch the lives of those we meet and that they will truly see YOU in us and the Light that You so brightly shine.

Thanks for featuring my "Salt of the Earth" hair sticks... thought you'd enjoy the scriptures I have on Salt for that collection:

The Word on Salt
God’s Word calls us to be a flavoring for the world, offerings to God, a source of healing from death and barrenness, a sign of covenant with God, and an anointer of the newborn.

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.” Matt 5:13
“Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.” Leviticus 2:13
“Don't you know that the LORD, the God of Israel, has given the kingship of Israel to David and his descendants forever by a covenant of salt?” 2 Chronicles 13:5
“Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take fragrant spices...and pure frankincense, all in equal amounts, and make a fragrant blend of incense, the work of a perfumer. It is to be salted and pure and sacred... place it in front of the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you.” Exodus 30:34-36

"Bring me a new bowl," he said, "and put salt in it." So they brought it to him. Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, "This is what the LORD says: 'I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.' " And the water has remained wholesome to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken.” 2 Kings 2:20&21
"On the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to make you clean, nor were you rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloths.” Ezekiel 16:4
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Colossians 4:6

Let’s be salty Christians. Salty Christians season the world around them, they offer themselves to the Lord, they are a sign of the covenant God has made with His people, they bring Jesus, the one true healer to the world. Salty Christians help care for the newborn believer so they are not left alone and speak to others with grace and wisdom. Let’s all be Salty!

Wonderful post! Let's remember too that salt gives flavor to food and without it nothing tastes good and it can completely ruin a dish if used in the wrong way. Without the Lord our lives are bland and of no effect to others. Additionally, putting too much salt into a dessert makes the person who tastes it want to spit it out. I guess what I'm saying is just a reminder to be salty in a loving godly way...
