But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.  Galatians 5:22-23

God’s word tells us to be filled with the Spirit.  Are we?  The perfect person (who does not exist) would exhibit all of the traits in this verse, all of the time. But if you are more like me, some of these attributes need work or are completely missing altogether. For this week’s devotion, I would like us to meditate on these things and ask the Lord to show us the areas of our lives that need to be given over to Him.

Love
For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 1 John 3:11

Joy
Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Peace
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.  Isaiah 26:3

Longsuffering (Patience)
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 2 Timothy 2:24

I'm so glad that these are the result of God's work in us and not some list that we have to conquer on our own!

What a good reminder that we need to work on ALL the fruit of the spirit in our lives (although of course we are each different in which areas we struggle)!

One of my favourite verses about love is:
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:10
