Luke 8:1-3 (NIV)
1 After
this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming
the good news of the kingdom of God .
The Twelve were with him, 2 and
also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary
(called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of
Herod's household; Susanna; and many others. These
women were helping to support them out of their
own means.
Most of the time I’m hearing studies and messages mentioning
the Disciples and their many missions, but for some reason it struck me that
there were also strong women to help and support those around them. In Luke it
mentions how several women helped the Twelve with their own means, but it also
brought me to the Proverbs woman, Dorcas, and to Lydia
and so many others who spent their lives lending a helping hand.
What a good example of how to be missions driven and to
start right from the abundance of the talent that the Lord gives.
Support: These women were helping to support
Missions (aries): Them (the Twelve)
Talent: Out of their own means
Spreading the Gospel to the masses and giving Glory to the
Lord for all that He provides is a lifelong mission which elicits action for
His graciousness towards us.
Like the women mentioned in this verse of Luke I see the
same action emulated here.
The stories of their actions all those years ago are still
being read and inspiring generations present and future to a call to Missions.
God Bless your day today,
Julia
