He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Proverbs 25:18

Do you ever have one of those days (or weeks, or years) where everything seems to go wrong?   Everything is spinning out of control.  You feel broken down, unprotected, helpless and hopeless.  Anger comes too easily or tears too often. Gentleness and goodness rarely show their face and you have forgotten what faith is.

Maybe life is just the opposite.  You have all that you need.  Things have been going great for a long time. But is the Holy Spirit really in control of your life?  If we ask God to search our hearts (Psalm 139:23), will He find meekness and self-control?

Who has rule over our spirit?  This is something that we cannot do on our own.  God’s word tells us in Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.  Our hearts are weak. It is too easy to give into bitterness, depression, fear, greed, envy, etc.  We must give the Holy Spirit control over our spirit. He will be the strength of our heart.  He will give us the ability and grace to deal with all those things that are out of control. And He will cultivate the fruit that is missing in our lives.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
 Galatians 5:22-23

Good advice to always remember. It does go in line with what I wrote for next Monday. God is good.
