Your name: Cathryn Barger
Your shop name(s): EdenPottery
Tell us about yourself!: I live in South Western, Ohio with my husband and 4 & 3 year old son and daughter. Since my home studio resides out in the country, I get a lot of my color inspirations for decorating my pottery from nature.
How did you get your start on Etsy? Before Etsy, sales had always come easy for me through fairs and shows. But after posting a few items on Etsy to just try it out, I was feeling a little discouraged with all the waiting for just one sale. It took a couple months, but I finally got my first sale after joining a few teams on Etsy.
How did you choose your shop name? I named my business after my biggest inspiration, my daughter Eden. Even though I had been creating pottery before she came along, she is the one I wanted to leave a legacy for. And even at the age of 3, she is already taking an interest in my work.
What does a typical day look like for you? I am still a mom first and a potter second, so I usually spend my time in the studio when the kids are playing quietly or in bed. I begin my day with finishing the pieces that I've thrown the night before. They need trimmed, altered or cleaned up before they are ready for their 1 week drying time. I usually sit down and throw several pots in a couple hours time. My stoneware requires two kiln firings, so I spend a couple hours a week just loading and unloading my kiln. There is also glazing my work, cleaning the studio, preparing the clay for the next day and so much more.
If you could be anywhere in the world for one day, where would it be? Ravenna, Italy. I've always wanted to go there after studying in school about their churches full of gorgeous mosaics. The country is rich with ancient pottery techniques, culture and food.
What is your favorite Bible verse? It's a verse that I have drawn to every time I had a need that I couldn't figure out how to meet. 'Call on Me and I will answer Thee, and show Thee great and mighty things that though knowest not.' Jeremiah 33:3
What is your favorite Etsy item listing to feature? The pie or casserole plate pictured above.

I love your oak leaf platter. Very nice!
Beautiful pottery!
I really want one of those yarn bowls someday!
Great shop. Lots of pretty things. I love the pie plate!
I'm amazed that your shop is Eden Pottery and so is your daughter's name. I was thinking of the garden where it all began - and that dirt (clay) that God used to form Adam. And from which so many useful vessels can be formed. Our Father even called Himself, The Potter. So connected ..........
I have to say that your work is just beautiful and my favorite is the piggy. My daughter collects piggys so I have hearted the bank.

Beautiful pottery. I loved your note on leaving a legacy to your daughter. It touched me. My favorite work of yours is your cobalt blue pottery, especially the mug.

I admire pottery artists. It's something I've never tried, but it looks fun. I think the yarn bowls in your shop are ingenious.

I love all of this beautiful pottery. We have over 100 potters down in Seagrove, NC - about 30 minutes from us. We have collected pottery over the years - mainly buying it at school auctions - helps the school and we get a nice piece of pottery ----What I love in your shop is the white yarn bowl - I love to crochet and knit - that's a great idea.

When I was growing up we had some stoneware plates and bowls. I loved them. Your style reminds me of that set. It is heavy and beautiful. My favorite piece is your Milky White Yarn bowl. My mom used to have a plastic yarn holder when I was younger but it was to light and would roll across the floor. Your design is heavy and would prevent rolling. This is just a wonderful piece!
Great to see your smiling face, Cathryn. I've always wanted to go to Ravenna too!
Thanks everyone for your kinds words and encouragement! The winner of the Pendant is SimplyNotesandTotes! Yeeeehhh!
